Scott Thulborn used his brand new set of Henselite Cruze when he became Team Henselite's newest World Champion, winning the World Singles Champion of Champions yesterday.
On the fast greens at Helensvale bowls club, Scott put on a master class throughout the week, topping his section and dropping only a single game to Abd Rahman Haji Omar from Brunei before heading into the weekend's finals.
In the semi-final Scott again met the Brunei bowler where he turned the tables on his sectional defeat, advancing to Sunday's final courtesy of a 8-5, 9-7 victory.
In the final, Scott was up against Jonathan Tomlinson from Wales who had also only dropped a single game, beaten by Scott in the sectional play. Scott was able to repeat the result, taking out the final and the World title with a 9-6, 9-4 win.
Having represented Australia at the 2015 World Champion of Champions, making the semi-finals then, the Adelaide bowler rated his victory the greatest win of his career.
“I was a bit disappointed going down in the semi-finals last year so it’s a real honour to find a way to win one — words can’t describe it,” he told Bowls Australia.
“I knew when I was playing the last Worlds that I had the double chance so I’ve had 14 months to think about this. I’m thrilled.”
Scott had his brand new set of Henselite Cruze for only a week when he used them in the World Champion of Champions. Henselite Cruze was released last Monday and is a bowl designed for fast greens over 15 seconds.
"I had my set of Cruze for less than a week before using them to win the World Champion of Champions. Being a Henselite bowl and with a similar feel in the hand to the Dreamline XG I've had so much success with, I had absolute confidence that the new Cruze would perform well on the fast greens at Helensvale."
"They have narrower line than the XG and a nice even draw to the head with a straighter finish. They hold their line well when playing with weight. I'm a fan of them!"
