| October 13, 2010 New Zealand's Val Smith took out the silver medal yesterday in the women's singles at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. The world number one took the hard route to the final after she finished third in her section and had to make it through the quarterfinal play-offs before winning a tight semi-final in a tie-break against Australia's form player of the tournament. The first set of the final was a fairly even affair but Val's young English opponent dominated the second, leaving her to settle for a silver medal in a hard-fought campaign against some of the world's best bowlers. Val Smith uses Henselite bowls.
