April 26, 2011

Taren Point’s Chris Nairn claimed the 2011 Men’s Wheelchair Sports NSW Singles Classic title at Rosehill Bowling Club last month defeating Engadine’s Michael Vassallo 19-18 in the final.

Nairn and Vassallao, who are great mates, put aside their friendship for this match with the NSW title on the line.
The match could have gone either way with both players sharing the lead in the early stages, however it was the very determined Nairn who skipped away in the late stages to Claim the title.

The 3rd and 4th playoff was won by Gilbert Hicks (Taree West) defeating Mark Whiteman (Mayfield West) who is also a Sports Development Officer of Bowls NSW 15-14. In the Semi Finals Nairn was too strong for Hicks 22-8 while Vassallo defeated Whiteman 18-13.

In the Ladies WSNSW Singles Classic the title went to Lyn Smith (Roselands) defeating Carolyn Nelson (Engadine) 16-8. In the 3rd and 4th playoff saw Joanne Hunter (Gymea) defeat Joy Boyd (Warilla) 28-4.
