News Team Henselite Alex Marshall MVP in Steamers APL win
November 24, 2014

Team Henselite's Scottish International Alex Marshall MBE and his Murray Steamers teammates secured a momentous victory at the Australia Premier League in the final against Adelaide Endurance at Club Pine Rivers on Friday.

In the second staging of the national event - dubbed APL02 - first time contenders, the Murray Steamers from Moama Bowls Club, finished in second place to advance to the finals stage. After defeating the Perth Suns in their semi, Alex Marshall and his team of Ryan Bester and Michael Walker set up a confrontation with Adelaide Endurance who had beaten the top of the table Blackjacks in their respective semi-final. Adelaide's all-Henselite outfit had proved again that they were not to be underestimated as they reached the final for the second year in a row.

But it was the bordertown trio who were able to claim the $40,000 first prize cheque and APL02 silverware with a final scoreline of 6-2, 5-3.

After being crowned champions, Marshall was given further cause for celebration when he was named the APL02 Most Valuable Player, taking over from Henselite team-mate Scott Thulborn (Adelaide) who took the honours last year.

"I've enjoyed every single minute of this," Marshall told Bowls Australia after the event.

"I've never played in an atmosphere like this before, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it".

"Back home they would not believe what happened. I'll certainly by taking DVDs back to show them".
