News Team Henselite Australian Open title for Henselite 4s
June 29, 2015

South Australia's Men's Fours combination of Scott Thulborn, Wayne Ruediger, Nathan Pedersen and Steven Dennis took out the Australian Open trophy at Broadbeach Bowls Club last week after a thrilling final. Up against QLD favourites Paul Girdler and Dean McWhinney with Ian Law and New Zealand's Shannon McIllroy, the SA Henselite quartet were pushed to brink in the tightest of finals, eventually picking up the required shots on the last end to win the trophy 12-11.

"I felt releaved to get through," said skip Scott Thulborn, "It was a close game, could have gone either way. I just gave my last bowl a chance and we were lucky to get there."

"There were no easy games, all the way through. We had really close games against Kelvin Kerkow and Stephen Halmai, but we always found a way to get it front. All four of us played well, if someone had a bad end we backed each other up well and didn't have any loose ends,"

"We usually play against each other in South Australia but we are all good friends. We are all greenkeepers back home so it’s special to win this title with your mates."

"Wayne and I made the final last year and we had a different lead and second this year but we
went in to try and win it. We were confident that if we all played well we would go close."

"We were all using Dreamline XGs which had a consistent line throughout the wet, dry and windy conditions. They played well and suited the QLD greens nicely."

After returning home Scott plans to "catch up on a bit of work" and he's qualified for the Australian Indoor Championships in August and will be in action at the Helensvale 5-a-side and Australian Premier League later this year. As the current Australian Champion of Champions, he'll compete in the World Champion of Champions which will also be taking place in Helensvale. "So it's sort of local," he joked. "I might be the crowd favourite in Queensland for once."
