April 24, 2012

Bowls Australia has announce it's squad for the upcoming International Series in SA later this month which will feature several Team Henselite players. The 6 nation event will give these bowlers an ooportunity to impress selectors before World Bowls takes place there later this year.

Following this week's Australian Sides Championships where Australia'a best bowlers slugged it out at Broadbeach Bowls Club to take home the Alley Shield and Marj Morris trophies, Bowls Australia announced a squad of 10 men and 10 women with a number of debutantes pulling on the green and gold for the first time.

Eigteen-year-old Victorian, Dylan Fisher, was named in the squad and while others had been expecting it was only a matter of time before his call up, Dylan himself was taken by surprise. "I'm in total shock," he said, following the announcement. "I don't know what to feel or what to say really! I wasn't expecting it at all, I was just hoping to go up there [to the Australian Sides Championships] and play well for VIctoria and maybe win something. So this is a real bonus."

Dylan was named Victoria's Player of the Tournament and has show in the past couple of months that he deserves his place in the squad, winning the Victorian Masters Singles at Richmond Union and the Victorian Champion of Champions

"The Richmond Union Masters was the most special win," Dylan. "That was really exciting. Something I used to go an watch when I was younger and I just used to think, 'imagine if I could play in that' or 'imagine if I could win that' and so it's a dream come true."

"All my family were there, I had a really big support crew so it was great to win that with them."

Dylan will be joined in the Australian Squad by Team Henselite's Nathan Rice and Mark Casey, both coming off big wins for Queensland at the Australian Sides and also at the Australian Open as well as Wayne Ruediger from South Australia and Kate Carriage from NSW.
