News Team Henselite Judy Elated with State Over 60's Win
April 28, 2010

One of the stalwarts of bowls, Yarraville Footscray's Judy Nardella has pulled off the impossible, coming back from 18-4 down to win the Victorian Over 60's State title over Gordana Baric last week at Burden Park Bowls Club.

Judy just scraped in to the tournament, having turned 60 only recently, and wasn't going to enter until her husband Tony, who won the men's event last year and has been battling cancer, encouraged her to do so.

"I have been through so much lately and I haven't played much bowls" said the Victorian representative. "So to win it meant so much to me. It was just as good as when I won the World Cup! Especially playing against Gordana in the final, she is such a good bowler."

"I was 11-0 down and I couldn't find my line, nothing was going my way. So I thought I'd change my length, change my line, change my hand. I won one point and I thought to myself", 'íf she can get to 11, I can get to 11.'"

"I kept going and won another point but I was 18-4 down and it was best of 21. I hung in there and before I knew it it was 19 all."

"In the last few ends people were cheering like it was a football match. It's just such a fantastic feeling, it's the best singles game I've ever played."

"I'm very determined, I never give up until the last bowl."
