News Team Henselite Lester, Casey and McGillivray qualify for UK PBA events
August 24, 2010

Three members of Team Henselite will be on their way to the UK after the PBA National Finals at Tweed Heads Bowls Club last week.

The National FInals were held to decide which Australians would qualify for events on the Professional Bowlers' Association calendar, taking place in the UK from November 2010 to January 2011. The successful qualifiers include Victoria's Barrie Lester (pictured) who will compete in the World Professional Indoor Singles, Mark Casey who secured a berth at the Scottish International Open and Warilla's Geoff McGillivray who won through to the finals of the Welsh International Open.

For Moonee Ponds's Barrie Lester, his qualification is the realisation of a long held dream. "It's the first time I've made the National Finals. Part of the reason I entered was to get the experience of getting overseas and competing against some of the world's best bowlers. I've competed all around Australia, NZ and Malaysia. Ever since I was little I've always wanted to get over and compete in Europe. This will be another great experience in the sport. To be in that environment surrounded by pro bowlers in the pro facilities will be an absolute thrill. It still hasn't sunk in yet."

"Looking at the class field that was here at Tweed Heads last week I couldn't believe that I qualified," said Barrie. "The crowd was absolutely unbelievable, there were 400 up here cheering us on."

"I was using my Dreamlines. The carpet was running about 15 to 16 seconds, and it was all touch play. When it's like that you need to back yourself on the draw. You need a bowl with draw and the Dreamlines are perfect for that speed."

The PBA events are well known for attracting Britain's best bowlers, as well as others from around the world. "It would be good to come up against a qualifier from another country early on, rather than a local," said Barrie. "I hope I don't get the reigning champion in the first round! I'd like to play Greg Harlow again, I played against him in the final of the pairs in the 2007 Australian Open, which he won, so I'd like to have another go."

PBA events will be taking place as follows:

Scottish International Open, 6th to 13th November 2010

World Professional Indoor Championships, 7th to 23rd January 2011

Welsh International Open, 29th January to 4th February 2011
