News Team Henselite Mark Casey Wins Australian Open Singles Crown
February 27, 2012

Helensvale's Mark Casey has been crowned Australian Open Singles Winner after beating Helensvale club mate and good friend, Nathan Rice, in the final at Darebin City Bowls Club.

Mark, who had survived a nerve-wracking Australian Open semi-final tie-breaker against giant-killer Neil Crisp, was a picture of focus and consistency in the final, bursting out of the blocks to gain a lead of 10 after five ends. But Nathan, fresh from his Men's Pairs title win the day before, picked up his game and scored 5 over the next 4 ends with the set finishing 10-5. The final set was shot for shot and finished 7-7, giving Casey the title, 1.5 sets to 0.5.

“The conditions of the first set were ideal,” Mark told Bowls Australia after the win. “It was a lot different to yesterday where I struggled a little bit, I knew I had to come out and play really well against Nathan, he is a class act and I knew he was going to stage a comeback, which he did in the second set. Nathan obviously played really well all week, winning the pairs but it was just great to play against a good mate."

Both Men's Pairs finalists played with Dreamline XGs. "The Dreamline XGs have a bit more density which gives me more control and consistency in windy conditions. I use the Dreamline XGs on all surfaces now - on slower greens and quick greens like those on the Gold Coast."

Another fan of the Dreamline XG is Lisa Phillips who ended her 2011 title defence as a finalist in this year's Women's Singles. Recently picked for the Australian Squad, there is certainly more to come from this young Victorian star.
