News Team Henselite Rebecca McMahon Wins Victorian Open Singles
November 18, 2013

Colac City's Rebecca 'BJ' McMahon won her first Victorian Open Singles Title, overcoming Moama's Sandra Connolly 21-11 in the final at Shepparton Park BC on Friday.

Rebecca was delighted with the win, "I was pretty excited," she said. "It’s a long week and it's great to come out of it with something."

The Victorian State player was one of the form players of the tournament, reaching the final without dropping a game. "The semi-final against Claire Saunders was a great game. It was the closest; I ended up winning 21-19. I had pretty good wins throughout the rest of the event. They weren't easy, nothing at this level is easy but they were good wins."

In the final Rebecca raced to a 7-1 lead before dropping a few to go behind 7-8 but she found her line again and was soon unstoppable, claiming the coveted Open title with a 21-11 victory.

Rebecca's Henselite bowls served her well throughout the tournament, which saw all possible kinds of weather. "We had wind, rain sunshine, everything," she said. "We played on grass greens, carpets and synthetic greens and my bowls handled all the conditions well."

Up next for Rebecca is a test match against Tasmania and then it's on to the Australian Open in February where she's qualified for the Singles and Fours.
