News Team Henselite Team Henselite sweep Australian Open Titles
February 24, 2013

Team Henselite's Lisa Phillips and Aaron Wilson both Victorians, were on top of the world on Friday taking out the two most coveted prizes in Australian Bowls, the Australian Open Women's and Men's Singles Titles. Both endured nail-biting finals and survived tie-breaks to claim their crowns.

Nineteen year old Lisa Phillips pressed her case for national selection when she came up against Karen Murphy in the championship decider, remaining cool under-pressure and notching up a 9-5, 8-9 (4-2) win. This was the second title for Lisa who won the Australian Open singles title in 2011 and returned as a finalist in 2012.

The Clayton ace was delighted with her win "To say I was nervous going into the final is an understatement. Karen is so good and everyone looks up to her, I did when I was young too. I'd played her three times, though, so this time I was more relaxed and I had a good idea about what she might do."

"I saved my best game until last, I think, earlier on I was lucky to get into the final so to win it was just huge."

Lisa was using Dreamline XG in limited edition Tropic colour. "The Dreamline XGs were really nice on the greens here, especially on the TV rink, they played the wide hand really well and they had a nice turn on them which some of my opponents struggled with a bit as their bowls weren't turning. The XGs were definitely the right bowl to use for the greens."

Brighton's Aaron Wilson was equally impressive as he took on tournament dark horse, 17-year-old Matt Ayers from WA, in the Men's Singles Final. Aaron, a semi-finalist at the AO in 2011 was in solid form throughout the tournment and in the end his experience prevailed with a 12-3, 8-10 (4-1) win in the final.

In the Men's Pairs, Team Henselite Victorians Russell Green and Dylan Fisher beat Henselite Team-mate Mark Jacobsen in the final to lift the trophy. Lisa Phillips returned to the TV RInk and notched up yet another victory claiming the Women's Triples title.

In the Under-18 event, 17-year-old Chloe Stewart, who had been a quarter-finalist in the main draw of the Women's Singles earlier in the week, maintained her focus to take out the Australian Open Girls U18 Title.
