News Team Henselite Triples Title for Team Henselite's Forsyth and McIntyre
February 20, 2011

Team Henselite's Ali Forsyth (NZ/Taren Point BC) and Nick McIntyre (Victoria/Bundoora BC) joined the ranks of Australia Open winners on Saturday after teaming up with Essendon's Matt Flapper to take out the Men's Triples Title.

They took the difficult road to the final, overcoming many of the more fancied combinations of Mark Casey, Ryan Bester, Mark Jacobsen on the way and leaving them in their wake.

After a night of heavy rain and with gusty winds blowing across the Darebin International Sports centre Ali Forsyth's combination battled it out against Brett Wilkie, Wayne Turley and Aaron Sherriff in Saturday morning's final, eventually taking the title 7-6, 9-12, 8-0.

I am extremely proud of how we played," said the NZ international. "The calibre of the field this year was unbelievable so to come through and win is just incredible."

"We were a make shift side. Two weeks ago I wasn't even playing in the triples." Ali said, referring to his late replacement for Paul Dorgan. "Any win of this kind is a special one."

The win highlighted the importance of having the right bowl available for the green and conditions. "The conditions were horrific today," said Ali. "Very windy and the rain last night slowed everything down. It was very difficult to nail the jack. I was using Evos and Nick was using Dreamlines. Some of the other bowlers had tighter bowls and they were struggling a bit. After the rain last night and in the wind an Evo or a Dreamline was always going to get you the result on this green."
